How to Renew your Trinidad Driver's License / Permit

The Transport Division of the Ministry of Works and Transport wishes to advise the general public of the fees required to renew expired driver’s permits :-

*Six (6) months or less is $500.00

*More than six (6) months and up to three (3) years $875.00

*More than three (3) years and up to five (5) years $1750.00

*More than five (5) years - The owner is expected to Re-do the Regulations and Driving Test

*Applicants who wish to renew expired permits and have attained the age of sixty (60) years and over, are exempted from the fines.

NOTES

*Permits can be renewed at least One (1) month before it expires.

*Permit holders who will be travelling abroad for six months or more can bring their travel documents to the Licensing Office to prove they will be out of the country and their permits can be renewed six months in advance.

  • Do not wear slippers or sleeveless tops. Government institutions will not allow you to enter the building
  • Carry a pen, they do not have pens to fill out the form
  • They will take your picture, do not carry one
  • Locations
  • You must carry cash. Ensure you have some small bills if you need to change address or pay for license expired over 6 months. All fees in TT dollars
    • Change of addresses will cost $35
    • Standard renewal - good for 5 years - $500
    • Extended renewal - good for 10 years - $1000 (they will ask you after you submit your form)
    • Expired 6 months to 3 years - $875
    • Expired 3 years to 5 years - $1750
  • When you enter, there should be a desk with all of the forms available, go there and get your appropriate form and fill it out with your pen
  • Go to the customer service window
    • Submit your application form and driver's permit
    • They will check for the expiration period, address change, and ask if you want 5 or 10 year renewal
    • she will tell you how much you need to pay, and update the form
  • Take the updated form, and go to the cashier to pay
  • Workers go on lunch from 12:00pm - 1:00pm, and the cashier closes at 2:00pm
    • If you reach any time after 11:00pm, they will most likely accept your application form, keep your old license and tell you to come back at 1pm to collect your new license
    • You will not be able to drive for this time period
  • After you pay, you go and sit in the second waiting room where they will call you in about 30mins - 1hr (depending on how many people are there) to check your new license, and take your picture and signature
  • After your picture is taken, wait outside for about 10mins and they will call your name to give you your new license
